Olá, queridos alunos! This is our first podcast class, so this time you will be able to listen to the pronunciation of the words in Portuguese. It is very important to read in another language, but if you listen how the words are pronounced correctly it will be better for your learning process. So, that’s the reason I decided to create a podcast for you!
In this first class, you are going to learn some basic greetings in Portuguese. These basic phrases are very useful for your basic communication when you’re starting to learn a new language. The words are pronounced in Portuguese and English for your better understanding!
OS CUMPRIMENTOS DO DIA – GREETINGS OF THE DAY
Bom dia!
Good morning!
Boa tarde!
Good afternoon!
Boa noite!
Good evening or Good night!
Note: In Portuguese we use the same greeting “boa noite!” for good evening and good night.
CONHECENDO ALGUÉM – MEETING A PERSON
Oi!
Hi!
Olá!
Hello!
Tudo bem?
How are you?
Como vai você?
How are you?
Prazer em conhecê-lo (la) !
Nice to meet you!
Note: In Portuguese when you say nice to meet you for a man ,you always say “Prazer em conhecê-lo!“ ,for a woman just change lo for la.
PALAVRAS DE ETIQUETA – ETIQUETTE WORDS
Obrigado(a)!
Thank you!
De nada!
You’re Welcome!
Com licença!
Excuse-me!
Desculpe-me!
I’m sorry!
Por favor!
Please!
Note: As I mentioned before for the use of male and female terms ,here you can realise again that “Obrigado!” is used when a man say thank you! and it changes for “Obrigada! when it’s mentioned for a woman. It’s because in Portuguese the letter a is associated to the female gender and the letter o for the male gender.A typical example is the use of the articles: a menina (the girl), o menino ( the boy).
DIZENDO ADEUS – SAYING GOOD-BYE
Tchau!
Bye!
Adeus!
Good-bye!
Até logo!
So long!
Até amanhã!
See you tomorrow!
Até mais tarde!
See you later!
Até daqui a pouco!
See you soon!
So, I hope you enjoyed our first class! If you have doubts, questions or comments please send me an e-mail. My e-mail is: paulopazpiece@hotmail.co.uk
